Who is affected
Manufacturers and importers of smartphones, cordless phones and slate tablets placed on the EU market, and the dealers who display the label online and in store.
Key obligations
- 01Register each model in the EPREL product database and display the energy label
- 02Keep spare parts available for seven years after the last unit is placed on the market
- 03Provide operating-system updates for at least five years
- 04Meet battery endurance, drop resistance and repairability requirements
- 05Publish repair information for professional repairers
What it means for your passport
The label is a public, model-level data set that a passport can reuse directly: energy class, repairability score, battery cycles and ingress protection map onto passport fields. EPREL registration shows how a central registry and product identifiers will work under ESPR.
Repairability class
The class (A to E) scores disassembly depth, fasteners, tools, spare-part availability and price, and software support. It is the first EU-wide repairability index and a template for other electronics.
