The sessions covered the Digital Product Passport and its implementation, traceability, the circular textile economy and sustainability in practice. The focus has clearly shifted from discussing regulation in theory to making it work on the ground. The conversations in between were just as meaningful. We met brands, manufacturers and solution providers, and opened the door to new partnership opportunities. We return inspired and even more convinced that simplifying product compliance is key to making circularity real. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲…

We held the kick-off meeting of our Digital Product Passport (DPP) project with İskur Tekstil on 16-17 September at İSKUR's Kahramanmaraş facilities. The partnership began with the memorandum of understanding signed in May by Beyond Bar Code, USB Certification and İSKUR under the Belgian Economic Mission. It now continues as a joint working programme. Within the project, product level data will be verified by our project partner USB Certification, an accredited certification body. Every data field is therefore designed to stand up to accredited verification and to a customer audit. DPP is a precondition for access to the EU market. Under ESPR it becomes mandatory for textiles in stages from 2027. Manufacturers that start preparing early are already meeting their customers' data requests ahead of their competitors. Our goal is a reference DPP implementation: product level data that is verified, recognised in the EU and scalable across the sector. Our special thanks to Ismail Kurtul and the teams at İSKUR Tekstil and USB Certification who contributed to this reference project. We keep working to get Turkish textiles strongly prepared for DPP. --------- 𝗗𝗶𝗷𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂 𝘀𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘆𝗼𝗿. İSKUR Tekstil ile yürüteceğimiz Dijital Ürün Pasaportu (DPP) Projemizin açılış toplantısını 16-17 Eylül'de İskur Tekstil Kahramanmaraş tesislerinde gerçekleştirdik. Mayıs ayında Belçika Ekonomi Misyonu kapsamında Beyond Bar Code, USB Certification ve İSKUR tarafından imzalanan mutabakatla başlayan birlikteliğimiz, artık ortak bir çalışma programıyla devam ediyor. Proje kapsamında ürün bazlı veriler, proje ortağımız ve akredite belgelendirme kuruluşu USB Certification tarafından doğrulanacak. Böylece her veri alanı, akredite doğrulamaya ve müşteri denetimine dayanacak şekilde kurgulanıyor. AB pazarına erişimin ön koşulu olan DPP, ESPR kapsamında tekstilde 2027'den itibaren kademeli olarak zorunlu hale geliyor. Bu sürece erkenden hazırlanmaya başlayan üreticilerimiz, müşterilerinin veri talebini rakiplerinden önce karşılıyor. Hedefimiz, ürün bazlı verisi doğrulanmış, AB'de tanınabilir ve sektöre yaygınlaştırılabilir bir referans DPP uygulaması ortaya koymak. Bu referans projede emeği geçen başta Ismail Kurtul olmak üzere İSKUR Tekstil ve USB Certification ekiplerine teşekkür ederiz. EUROPE’S TECH SOVEREIGNTY MUST BE BUILT.

Happy to wrap up the FIWARE Global Summit 2026 in Menton. Beyond Bar Code was pleased to exhibit and contribute to discussions on European AI sovereignty and Digital Product Passports, sharing our perspective on open, interoperable and sovereign digital infrastructures for European industry. Great conversations, strong connections, and plenty of momentum for what comes next. Europe cannot regulate its way to sovereignty. It has to build it. "Digital Product Passports for Circular Supply Chains" opens the August 2026 issue of the Journal of Innovation, the peer-reviewed journal of the EDM Association (OMG). Authors: Suna Akbayir, Guven Fidan, Ph.D. and Taner Gulez, Artech International BVBA & Beyond Bar Code. Most DPP writing stops at the regulation. We report what happens when you actually build one across a multi-tier supply chain, drawing on two live pilots, batteries and textiles. Three findings: 1. Data quality is solvable. Mandatory field completeness went from about 55% to about 88%. 2. The bottleneck is organisational. Tier 1 with an API connected in 10 days. Tier 2 and Tier 3 without middleware took 6 to 8 weeks. 3. Two valid passports can disagree about the same product. The same battery returned different recycled-content figures under CX-0143 and the GBA Battery Passport. Our answer is a five-layer open architecture, federated by design, with an entry tier that does not price SMEs out. It also names the Cross-border Recognition Bridge, the eIDAS 2.0 trust chain that makes an issuer's authority verifiable across member states. The car is becoming a data product. On 13 August 2026, the EU made it official.

The new End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Regulation has entered into force and it does something the old directive never did: it makes proof a design requirement, not an afterthought at the scrapyard. For decades the automotive sector optimised for one moment: the sale. The ELV Regulation stretches accountability across the whole lifecycle: design → use → dismantling → recovery → second life. And it hard-wires that accountability into data. What actually changes for manufacturers: 🔧 Recycled content stops being a marketing claim: new vehicles must reach 15% recycled plastic within ~6 years, rising to 25% and you must prove where every gram came from. ♻️ The bar stays high: 85% recyclability and 95% recoverability by weight, plus a 30% recycling target for ELV plastics. 🧩 Design-for-dismantling becomes measurable components and materials must be identifiable so recyclers aren't guessing. 📄 Paper trails give way to electronic certificates of destruction and digital record-keeping. And the piece to watch: the Circularity Vehicle Passport (CVP). The CVP is a Digital Product Passport for vehicles a machine-readable record linking materials, components, recycled-content declarations, hazardous-substance data and dismantling instructions, that stays live as the vehicle changes hands. A recycler, a customs officer and an auditor each scan the same carrier and get the slice of truth they're entitled to. The trap: most will treat the CVP as a label to print. It isn't! it's a data governance problem wearing a QR code. If your recycled-content figures live in three spreadsheets and your supplier declarations aren't verifiable, the passport just exposes the gaps faster. The EU DPP Registry is live : Shift from building infrastructure to sector-specific implementation.

On 20 July 2026 the European Commission's Digital Product Passport Registry became operational, alongside a new central DPP web page and a testing environment. The focus is now shifting decisively from building infrastructure to sector-specific implementation. What's on the roadmap (indicative EU timeline): 📅 Sept 2026 —> Implementing Decision on the final two DPP standards (completing the six-standard package) 📅 Q4 2026 —> ESPR Delegated Act for Iron & Steel + Implementing Act on Battery DPP access rights 📅 18 Feb 2027 —> DPP becomes mandatory for certain batteries (EV, industrial & light-means-of-transport) 📅 Q2–Q4 2027 —> DPP requirements extend to construction products, then textiles, aluminium and tyres 📅 2028–2029 —> furniture, followed by mattresses and recycled content Batteries are first, but if you make textiles, steel, construction products or furniture for the EU market, your clock is already running too. ⏳ The practical to-do list for economic operators: ✅ Map and clean your product & supply-chain data (composition, origin, circularity, compliance) ✅ Verify your identity as an economic operator — a Qualified Electronic Seal (QES) under eIDAS is required before registration ✅ Assign data ownership and governance across the value chain — DPP is an organisational challenge as much as a technical one ✅ Pressure-test traceability and your QR/data-carrier setup Preparation beats scramble.
